Context research

I have researched different traditional styles of dolls, and also researched miscarriage comfort dolls and their roles.
I discovered that miscarriage comfort are all very realistic, and soft.
But I think these kind of comfort dolls can lead you into a false sense of security and comfort.
Therefore I am going to make a wooden miscarriage comfort doll, because personally I feel like it will serve its purpose of being something to hold... but it will not replace the lost baby, so you cannot misguide yourself into thinking the lost baby can be replaced with a doll.

Object research

I have been researching possible ways of creating some of my letters to create my word 'INADEQUATE'.

I have researched an artist called Kyle Bean. KyleBean.co.uk
He is a designer that does installations, window displays and advertising.
These following pieces of work were made from card, paper, hair, fabric and found objects.

Object

Chosen title : Make 10 sculptures, photograph them and destroy them. The images are the work.

Definition of sculpture: 'Make or represent a form by carving, casting or any other shaping techniques.'
'Also, the art of making a two or three dimensional representative.'

My 10 sculptures will be letters that form the word 'INADEQUATE'.
I am using the word inadequate because after looking at the definition of sculpture I am challenging my own perceptions of what a sculpture is, and this to me is an inadequate representation of a sculpture.

I want to make the 10 sculptures out of different materials and techniques.

Textiles workshop with Jo Newman

During this workshop I learned how to use an industrial over locker and an embellisher.
During this workshop I created a decorative piece that follows the human form.
This was made out of old jeans, and 2 t-shirts.

Context research

For 'context' I discovered a website called 'http://www.godslittleones.com/ This website offers comfort to women who have had a miscarriage. They also create 'portrait dolls' where they create a doll of the child.
The dolls are said to comfort women in their time of despair.

Personally I find these dolls too lifelike and I fell upset and distressed.

Context research

For 'Context' I have settled on a question out of the field guide.
'Make a work which moves from one place to another'.
For this project I started my initial research by looking at children's dolls. Because although they do not move themselves, they move constantly with the child.

Metal Workshop with Pete Whitehouse

During this workshop I learned a whole new range techniques I had never used before.

Vector Workshop with Steve Bulcock

After I created the two initial illustrations I then worked on a programme called Adobe flash, where I animated both of the illustrations. This is my animation.

Vector Workshop with Steve Bulcock

During this workshop I was partly working with Adobe illustrator, a piece of software I already have a broad knowledge of, so I found it easy to function illustrator to create my initial illustrations for this workshop. These are my two initial illustrations.

Film workshop with Boris

During this workshop I learned to use Premier, a piece of software I have never used before. I feel like it was a successful workshop because I have learned the basic functions of Premier.

Printing workshop with Steve

During this workshop, the main technique I learned was embossing and embossing with ink.
I feel like this workshop was successful because I learned the correct way to use the equipment and technique.

Casting workshop with Ruth

In this workshop I used a casting technique where we take a mould from a piece of fruit using plaster and scrim to strengthen the mould.  I made my mould in 3 sections so it would be easier to take apart and put back together. While making the mould I made sure I left a funnel to pour the wax into the mould.
I made my mould in 3 sections so it would be easier to take apart and put back together. While making the mould I made sure I left a funnel to pour the wax into the mould. When I had finished making the mould I scraped the edges until I could see the seam, then using a chisel and hammer I took them apart, them rejoined them, then I poured wax into the funnel and waited for It to set and cool. Then, using the same technique with a chisel and hammer, I took them apart to reveal my wax banana.
